What is transition ?
                                                 

      Before we go any further ,it is important that everyone understands what we mean by the term transition.

We all know that transition is times of changes.

When a child with special needs approaches 3 years of age, transition takes on another meaning .

 

 

  1.When a parent or caregiver sees that an infant is not progressing, toward the milestones of a infant or early toddler . They contact to Children Medical Services / Early Intervention (Early Step )for infant and early toddles.
2 .As parents, you have already encounter several transitions including but not limited to when the child moves from the hospital to home , if your family moves from one service area to another .

IDEA ,the federal legislation that governs special education , requires that formal transition planning begin about 3-6 months before your child turns three.

 
The Individuals with Disabilities Act of 2004 (IDEA) list of
13 disability categories are:
 
 
• Autism
• Deaf-blindness
• Developmental delay (used for children, ages 3 through 8)
• Hearing impairment, including deafness
• Mental retardation
• Multiple disabilities
• Orthopedic impairment
• Other health impairment
• Serious emotional disturbance
• Specific learning disability
• Speech or language impairment
• Traumatic brain injury
• Visual impairment, including blindness
  

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal

law that governs how states and public agencies provide early

intervention, special education, and related services for children

with disabilities. IDEA identifies thirteen categories under which

a child would qualify as having a disability
