What is transition ?

Before we  go any further ,it is important that everyone understands  what we mean by the term transition.

We all know that transition is times of changes.

When a child with special needs approaches 3 years of age, transition takes on another meaning .

IDEA ,the federal legislation that governs special education , requires that formal transition planning  begin about 3-6 months before your child turns three.

The Individuals with Disabilities Act of 2004 (IDEA) list of
13 disability categories are:

• Mental retardation
• Multiple disabilities

• Serious emotional disturbance
• Specific learning disability
• Speech or language impairment
• Traumatic brain injury
• Visual impairment, including blindness

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal

law that governs how states and public agencies provide early
